Russia and Ukraine
There is a big argument between the world’s powerful countries with Russia and a region in the South of Ukraine, Crimea. There have been fights about Russians wanting Ukraine to be part of their country. Now Ukrainian army is fighting with Russian supporters in eastern parts of the country. On May 11, in parts of the Eastern Ukraine held a place to vote because they wanted to ask people if they want to stay part of the country or rule themselves. The results showed most people wanted to be independent. However western government and Ukraine’s leaders in Kiev said the vote was illegal and it does not count because it is not carried out properly. At this moment, fights in Ukraine is nearly over. There is a warning that Ukraine is about to enter a civil war. On March 2014, Putin sent soldiers to Crimea because he wanted to protect Russians who live there. Western countries said that it is against the international law because Russia is taken over the region.
Why are Ukraine angry?
Ukraine protesters are angry at President Yanukovych because of his refusal to sign a political agreement with European Union. For more than 75 days, the protesters were waiting on Kiev's central Independence Square. Ukrainians are angered by their government's decision.
